Bell Ringer: Observe a Jolly Rancher and list 5 qualitative and 5 quantitative observations in your notebook.
Next we reviewed the characteristics of life and watched a video clip showing Theo Jansen's strandbeasts. Then students wrote a pretend letter to Theo in their notebooks explaining why his strandbeasts are not really alive. Next, we worked on a controls and variables worksheet and finished up by watching part of Apollo 13 (edited for language and content). We use Apollo 13 to analyze how the astronauts use science processes to solve problems.
