Bell Ringer: What are the "fabulous 4" macromolecules and their monomers?
Protein-amino acids
Carbohydrates-monosaccharides
lipids-fatty acids
nucleic acids-nucleotides
We then reviewed the fabulous 4:
Lipids -long term energy storage, provide 2X the energy of carbs, examples: fats, oils, waxes, steroids,
Proteins-used for structure and enzymes. Examples: hormones, antibodies, enzymes. Enzymes speed up reactions,
Carbohydrates-quick energy. Examples: glucose, ribose, fructose, lactose, cellulose, any "ose", starch, glycogen. Starch is how plants store carbs long term. Glycogen is how animals store carbs long term.
We spent the rest of class dissecting earthworms-no make up (sorry).
