Bell Ringer: Where in the cell does cellular respiration take place?
First, we reviewed the parts of a cell as a class. This was oral and nothing was turned in.
Cell membrane -gatekeeper of the cell, regulates what enters and leaves the cell.
mitochondria-where cellular respiration occurs (powerplant of the cell)
lysosome-bag of digestive enzymes, digests unwanted materials,
cytoskeleton-proteins that hold organelles in place and gives support to the cell. microfillaments and microtubules.
nucleus-control center of the cell
nuclear envelope-gatekeeper of nucleus
nucleolus-where ribosomes are made
ribosomes-help build proteins
Rough ER-has ribosomes on it where proteins are sorted and shipped to different parts of the cell
ER- intercellular highway
Golgi Apparatus-packages substances to be shipped out of the cell.
Cell Wall-Found in plants and gives structure and protection to plant cells
Chloroplast-site of photosynthesis
Vacuole-bag of water and enzymes, can take up to 90% of a plant cell's volume, provides turgor pressure
Next we went over the Carbon, oxygen, water, and nitrogen cycles and students drew diagrams of the carbon and water cycles on a blank piece of paper. Then we discussed global warming and how higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can lead to higher temperatures.
Make up: Bell Ringer and cycle diagrams.
