Bell Ringer:  Describe natural selection using your own words.  First we discussed what factors serve as "selectors" in nature.  Students listed predator/prey, competition for food/shelter/mates, disease etc.  Then we watched this slide show about natural vs. artificial selection.  After that we watched some clips from planet earth and discussed the selection pressures that would have influenced certain traits and behaviors.  Last of all we did a bird beak lab where students acted out the role of birds fighting to survive.
