October 5/6

Bell ringer:  Draw a simple palmate leaf.
First, we did a plant classification lab (see me for make up) where we grouped plants based on their shared characteristics.  Next we discussed monocots and dicots and listed their characteristics.  Then as a class we went through the "All in the Family" web activity and answered the questions on the lab worksheet.  Last of all we read and discussed "Strange Relations" an article from NPR science friday and discussed the role of using morphology (form) to determine phylogeny (how close organisms are related).
